Since my last article, I have been incredibly busy! I am furiously completing my doctorate and finally waiting for a date to defend my dissertation. I’ve remained busy speaking to groups and traveling. I just returned from Baltimore where I volunteered and moderated at the international AHEAD conference (The Association on Higher Education and Disability). I am also honored to announce that I have been selected as “2013 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year” for Roane State Community College. Find my remarks regarding this wonderful news below! Looking forward to posting more articles supporting students who learn differently soon!
“Humbled & Honored: I just received notification that I have been selected as the “2013 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year” for Roane State Community College, one of my previous alma maters and the one I credit for truly turning my life around.
If this in some way encourages other young people from rural Appalachia, (especially those with attention deficit), to pursue their education, then it’s all been worth it! Special thanks to Roane State for always being so good to me and for truly being a “community” that encourages making life better and the pursuit of education. God’s blessings never cease to amaze me.”
